Google has just announced that Blogger, their 11-year-old blogging platform, “will be kicking it into high gear in 2011 with some major changes including a new, completely overhauled user interface.” So far, Google has only introduced a few of the changes to come but promise there will be more to come in the next few months. What can we expect? For sure, there is going to be a new blogger editor.

Figure 1. Current Editor - Lots of tabs on top and more buttons along the bottom

Figure 1 above shows the current blogger editor with it’s myriad assortment of tabs and buttons. Figure 2 below is a screenshot of what Blogger’s new editor will look like, it’s much cleaner with the functions that used to on the bottom now moved to the top. It certainly looks a lot simpler but I don’t see anything that would even remotely make me consider switching from Live Writer 2011. It may be of interest to those of you who use the Blogger editor though.

One thing that will affect me, and anyone else who uses Blogger as their blogging platform is the new Dashboard screen. Figure 3 below shows the current Blogger Dashboard.

In Figure 4, below, the new Blogger Dashboard appears to be just a reshuffling of items to make then easier to access and manage. It’s very hard to say whether this will be better than the old one until we get a chance to actually try it. So far, Google hasn’t set a date for releasing these new updates to Blogger. All they will say for now is that more changes are coming in 2011.
